UPDATE! First Turkey in the Bag!

Hunting behind the barns up on the hill known for the notorious "doe-buck" that cost Rob his valuable Buck Tag back in 2004 (Dad still swears that it didn't have horns when he shot at it), Chris got his first ever turkey, a hen with his .12 gauge shotgun. Theobald Farms continues to produce outstanding hunting opportunities for us and we are blessed to be able to hunt there. Thanks Dale and Arlene!

Upon return to his place in Madison, Chris enjoyed the benefits of hunting...

And the First Animal Harvested Goes To...

...Devon Vater who dropped a squirrel this morning down at Theobald's on a trip with Dad and Chris. The three headed out because Dad and Chris had turkey permits and today was the opener of the turkey season. Devon used the .22 Plinkster that Dad won at the Harrisville Hunter's Banquet this last spring. The trio will hunt through today in hopes of bagging atleast one turkey.

Let's Get the Seasons Started...

We took the boys over to Ducks Unlimited's Great Outdoor Festival again this year and it was awesome! This kinda kicks off the hunting season for us. We won't be doing any early season goose hunting this year as it has been ridiculously hot recently and we haven't been seeing very many birds. If it picks up in the next few weeks, the regular season could be a serious possibility.

There will be a turkey/small game hunt this weekend in Barneveld. Stay tuned for results. We've also found out that there is a CWD Gun Hunt from October 18-21 in Barneveld this year so Devon has bought his scope and we will be sighting in the slugs very soon.

Jon's Cabin - Summer 2007

This has taken all summer to update and I sincerely apologize to those of you who have been following our outdoor escapades. This summer, we were outfished by an 8-year old. Owen had the summer of his life, landing the biggest fish which included a monster dogfish that broke his reel (thanks to Cabelas for taking it back and replacing it with an Ugly Stick) and a huge Smallmouth Bass. Dad landed his share of dogfish as well as a few northerns and two great Crappie. We've now found a new hot spot for Crappie and Walleye out on the Moonbar with minnows.

Mom caught some really big Largemouth Bass and Jen caught herself a dogfish as well. James had a few Walleye and Panfish and Gavin landed two tasty perch. Devon caught some Northerns and Walleye that we fried up on the last day. I'll get some more pics up if I can.
