Deer Hunting in Montana
I went with two friends to a farm just outside of Livingston, MT. We signed in with the owner of the ranch and got the local scoop(or at least what we could understand of him). Since my buddies Stew and Matt had already gotten their Mule Deer for the season the focus was on me. I was up on the ridge and they were down in the drainage trying to flush out some deer up the draws towards me. We saw two deer right away that pranced just outside the property and turned back to stare at us. I had a shot at a buck the next draw, but after the run to get in position I wasn't able to get a steady shot. We tried to circle that group of deer back to us but they would have no part in that. On the third draw that we worked, I got a perfect shot and hit it on my first attempt. It jumped up and ran about 20 feet before dropping.
We tromped over to the deer and field dressed in about 30 minutes. We quickly packed up all the meat and rushed back to the truck so that we could hunt a different area that had white tails. A little bit after the sunset Stew and Matt spotted a few whitetails about 250 yards away. Stew hit his and we were able to get the little guy out in the dark.
All in all, a fun experience.
